Arts and crafts are worth considering…at the museum level.

The gallery focuses on craft objects and decorative arts from the 19th century to the present. Pieces created from clay, fiber, glass, metal, and wood from American Art’s permanent collection of contemporary craft are displayed on a rotating basis in the second-floor galleries.

My favorite is an elaborate fish created from ‘found objects’ in all shades of blue. The fin is a doll’s arm. In a similar vein, I would recommend the Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore (www.avam.org). Absolutely the best for crafty art with social messages.
